Bas-relief Ceramic Wall Sculpture in Charcoal
Bas-relief Ceramic Wall Sculpture in Charcoal
This glorious one-of-a-kind hanging wall sculpture celebrates the human body, from the waist to the knees, depicted with a bas-relief design approach. The figure was formed with a push mold technique, which entails gently applying a thin layer of recycled clay into a mold (made from an original sculpture by Viveaux) and attached to a clay slab, followed with the lace border. The sculpture is greatly textured, starting with the figure itself in which smoothing was deliberately avoided to preserve the pattern that was imprinted into the clay slab with a layer of canvas material.
The lace border also began as a clay slab which was delicately pressed into real lace and then formed into a ruffle pattern to mimic authentic trim.
The cream color was created with recycled clay slip, and the darker color was painted on with a mason stain patina. The sculpture has been fired raw and unglazed to exaggerate the various textures.
